    Our XRF analyser reads the metal content of your item, without scratches or acid, and you see the result for yourself.

How we price it

What decides the price of your gold

What we look at Details
Purity How much of the item is actually gold, silver or platinum. The XRF test shows this on screen, so a 9ct ring and an 18ct ring are priced for what they are.
Weight More metal means more value. We weigh each piece in the store.
Market conditions Precious metal prices move every day, so offers reflect where the market sits on the day you come in.
Stones and condition For jewellery, diamonds and gemstones are assessed on cut, colour, clarity and carat, along with the item's condition, provenance and demand.

XRF testing

What is XRF testing?

A handheld analyser sends a small, focused beam at the surface of a piece, and each metal responds with its own signature. The analyser reads those signatures and works out which metals are there and in what proportion.

For you, that means a clear answer on what your piece is made of, in about the time it takes to read this paragraph.

How we test your gold

  1. Clean and scan

    We wipe the test area and hold the analyser against the surface.

  2. Read the result

    The screen shows the metal mix, for example 75% gold, which is 18ct.

  3. Explain and offer

    We go through the reading with you and show how it shapes our valuation.
