Who can apply

What we look at

You can apply for a CashLab loan if you:

  • are 18 or over and live in Australia
  • hold an Australian bank account in your own name and can share your last 90 days of bank statements
  • have photo ID: Driver's Licence, Passport or Proof of Age Card
  • have a valid mobile number and email address
  • can provide proof of income: payslips or Centrelink income statements if required
  • have regular income that can cover the repayments
  • aren't bankrupt or in a debt agreement

Income rules for each loan:

  • SACC loan ($300 to $2,000): wages, casual shifts, self-employment and Centrelink count. If Centrelink is part of your income, it needs to total at least $800 a fortnight.
  • MACC loan ($2,001 to $5,000): you need employment income of at least $500 a week. Centrelink payments alone don't qualify, though they still count alongside work income.

If you don't have a payslip, that's fine. We assess your income from your bank statements, so casual, gig and self-employed income can all be considered.

Worth checking before you borrow anywhere

A loan isn't always the cheapest answer. Before you apply anywhere, these are worth a look:

  1. No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS)

Loans for essentials with no interest and no fees, for people on a low income

  2. Centrelink advance payment

If you're eligible, you can receive part of an upcoming payment early, interest-free.

  3. Hardship plans with your providers

Electricity, gas, phone and water providers are required to offer payment plans if you're struggling.

  4. Free financial counselling

Call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 to talk through your options with an independent counsellor.

How to apply

From application to money in three steps

  1. Fill in the application online, or visit our Midland or Geraldton store and apply in person.

  2. Share your bank statements so we can see your last 90 days of income and spending.

  3. Get a decision. If you're approved and you sign the contract, the money goes into your account, often on the same day.

FAQs

Common questions about our loans

Yes, for a SACC loan of $300 to $2,000, as long as your Centrelink payments total at least $800 a fortnight. A MACC loan needs employment income of at least $500 a week, so Centrelink alone won't qualify you for one.
